LIBERTY MCATEER

Liberty focuses his practice primarily on corporate transactions, intellectual property transactions and outside general counsel services.

Liberty has been involved in multiple mergers and acquisitions transactions as well as numerous intellectual property development and licensing transactions, covering patents, copyrights and trademarks over a variety of media. Liberty also advises on joint venture matters, corporate governance, information privacy and data protection, employee and executive employment agreements and separations.

Prior to joining the firm, Liberty was corporate counsel and secretary to the board for Tipping Point Partners, a serial co-founder of software based startups. There, Liberty coordinated all legal matters presented to his organization and its portfolio companies. Liberty’s responsibilities included overseeing millions of dollars of fundraising, executed with a variety of financial instruments, which was used to develop portfolio companies consisting of IP-backed ventures, primarily in B2B licensing-based ventures. Additionally, Liberty was deeply involved designing his company’s corporate structure in order to isolate and protect various unrelated business interests while still providing for centralized ownership and management with a mixed incentive equity pool for employees. As a result, Liberty brings first-hand experience as a consumer of legal services and his commercial understanding of business operations to bear in his representation of the Firm’s clients.

Liberty received his J.D. from Brooklyn Law School with a full merit scholarship, where he specialized in intellectual property, and graduated cum laude. He received his B. A. as a triple major in math, physics and philosophy at Wesleyan University, graduating with honors. He is admitted to practice in the State of New York and to the Southern District of New York.
