Barton Partners Among Thought Leaders at 2023 Primerus International Summit

Four Barton partners recently presented at the 2023 Primerus International Summit, which was held in New York from May 4-6, 2023, and saw thought leaders from all over the world gathering to share ideas and experiences. The overarching theme for the 2023 summit was the “Rule of Law,” chosen as a way to thoughtfully approach the legal industry’s continued role in the international socio-political landscape. The summit explored how Rule of Law principles—such as equality before the law, impartiality, democratic processes, transparency, the exercise of power, and the curbing of arbitrariness—influence international diplomacy, policy, and trade.

Managing Partner Roger Barton moderated the special programming panel on the rule of law, featuring:

• Larry Johnson – Professor and former Assistant-Secretary-General for Legal Affairs at United Nations Headquarters
• Dr. Lamin J. Sise – Chairperson of the Truth, Reconciliation and Reparations Commission (TRRC) Ministry of Justice
• Dr. Pavel Usvatov – Director of the Rule of Law Programme South East Europe of the Konrad Adenauer Stiftung (KAS)

Roger also facilitated the summit’s Rule of Law keynote address with Emma Wade-Smith OBE, His Majesty’s Trade Commissioner for North America and HM Consul General New York.

On Friday, May 5^th, Partner Joe Harris was part of a panel titled, “A Whole New World. Navigating the Changing Employment Law Landscape.” Other panelists included Ryan Billings (Kohner Mann & Kailas, S.C.); Joyce Gist Lewis (Krevolin & Horst, LLC); and Connor Hetman (NHK International).

Also on Friday, May 5^th, Partner Ken Rashbaum presented as part of the panel “Realizing Benefits from Data Protection, the Inflation Reduction Act and Climate Crisis (Equator Principles and ESG).” Other panelists included Nicholas Chen (Pamir Law Group); Chase Victorson; Ville Salonen (Magnusson); and Josyl Barchue (Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center).

On Saturday, May 6^th, Partner Tara Aaron-Stelluto co-led a panel titled “Evolution of Exposure – How Companies Can Protect Against Tech” along with Mark Warzecha (Widerman Malek).
