Thomas C. White is an associate in Barton’s corporate group. His practice focuses on business transactions and financial services.

Tom represents a variety of underwriters and issuers in connection with a broad array of capital markets transactions. He provides due diligence review in advance of SEC-registered deals and private placements. Tom drafts and examines company filings and provides feedback to ensure compliance with SEC reporting obligations. As part of his regulatory compliance experience, Tom also has experience with reviewing and analyzing state and federal administrative procedures.

In addition to his capital markets experience, Tom has also worked in the private equity space. He has represented fund sponsors in fund formation efforts as well as ongoing compliance efforts with active prior funds. Tom also represented investors and completed their legal and regulatory requirements in order to gain access to funds domestically and abroad. He has extensive experience in the completion and review of subscription agreements, as well as the successful completion of anti-money laundering procedures for numerous jurisdictions worldwide.

Tom drafts client advisories providing corporate guidance on hot topics including climate change disclosure, human capital disclosure, public company diversity requirements, proxy procedures, and pending litigation that may affect compliance obligations.

Prior to joining Barton, Tom was an attorney in the Capital Markets group at Sidley Austin and in the Corporate Group at Debevoise & Plimpton.

Tom attended Brooklyn Law School on a full tuition scholarship where he earned his J.D. Tom was elected President of the Alternative Dispute Resolution Honor Society and represented his law school in competitions nationwide. At graduation, the Brooklyn Law School faculty and administration awarded Tom with the Sylvia Zucker Bernstein Prize, for enhancing the educational experience of his peers through on-campus efforts, as well as the Donald D. Greenstein Prize for demonstrated academic excellence in employee pension and labor law. He received a B. A. from Binghamton University.

Before Tom attended law school, he worked for ABC News’ special investigative unit and its flagship morning program, “Good Morning America.”
