Partner Tara Aaron-Stelluto Quoted by Bloomberg Law on Recent PTO Data Security Incident

Partner Tara Aaron-Stelluto was recently quoted by Bloomberg Law in the article “Trademark Office Data Leak Leaves Applicants Vulnerable to Fraud” regarding an incident that erroneously rendered U.S. trademark applicants’ domicile addresses publicly accessible. Tara commented on the pushback that the PTO received when it first began requiring applicants’ addresses. Additionally, she speaks to the potential for increased fraudulent and scam activity directed towards those whose information was revealed by the data leak:

Aaron-Stelluto said while fraudulent notices are already rampant, “this just raises the risk that more of those notifications are going to be able to go out and the companies that are doing that can do it more efficiently.”
