It is with great sadness that Barton says goodbye to our partner and longtime friend, Robert Rubenfeld, who passed away peacefully at his home in Long Beach, New York, on April 6, 2022.

Robert grew up in South Orange, New Jersey, before attending Kenyon College in Ohio, where he earned his B.A. in Economics and Political Science. He would go on to earn his J.D. at New York University School of Law.

In an accomplished career that spanned almost five decades, Robert dealt with the full spectrum of commercial real estate transactions, serving as trusted counsel regarding many high-profile properties and retail flagships in New York. His knowledge and hands-on experience in representing any interest in essentially any type of real estate transaction was greatly valued by his clients.

Robert’s colleagues remember him as a gifted lawyer and a wonderful person. He was an admirable colleague, providing unique insights, always willing to lend a helping hand, and acting as a mentor to younger lawyers.

He was a devoted and loving father of Julia Rubenfeld Feldman and Eric Feldman and Josh Rubenfeld; proud grandfather of Mara and Hope Feldman; and adored big brother to Jill Goldberg and Lisa Rubenfeld.

Robert will be missed in so many ways—his droll sense of humor, his talent as an attorney, and his camaraderie. We count ourselves lucky to have had the privilege of calling him a colleague and a friend.
