Barton LLP was recently highlighted in an April 10th article from ALM / Law.com, “From Kirkland and Sidley to a Fresh Start: Big Law Offshoots Thrive Over the Years”

On the heels of three former Kirkland litigation partners who left to form their own, smaller firm, the article examines what it calls the “long-running pattern of attorneys leaving elite firms and finding new niches and opportunities” building their own firms.

The article cites Barton LLP (which was launched by Managing Partner Roger Barton after leaving Sidley Austin ) as an example of this trend, noting that the firm now  successfully handles “a number of sophisticated partnership disputes, with deals ranging from the tens to hundreds of millions, and at times billions.”

Roger commented, “Big Law firms, don’t get me wrong, they’re great places. They have really smart lawyers, they’re good at what they do—but it’s not always the right fit for every client. It’s not always the right fit for every type of service that needs to be provided.”

He goes on to iterate that Barton LLP’s “continued focus is on sourcing our lateral partners from Big Law and then fashioning ourselves as a very efficient microcosm of a larger law firm,” while remaining more cost effective and client service-friendly than many of the larger firms.
