Partner Randy Rasey was recently quoted in a Barron’s article titled, “Trump, Senate Want to Ban Institutional Investors From Single Family Homes. They’re Already Having an Impact on Real Estate.”
The article covers both an executive order signed by Trump earlier this year and a Senate bill that are aiming to limit large institutional investors in the single-family home market.
Randy commented on the uncertainty regarding which laws and rules will actually be enacted. He notes that while policymakers generally have the same overarching goals regarding leveling the playing field for individual home buyers, they have differing views on how to reach these goals.
Randy argues that the impact to the real estate market will depend on factors such as who is considered a “large institutional investor” and whether these investors would be required to divest certain single-family real estate assets.
