Barton LLP is proud to announce its pro bono partnership with the New York County Lawyers Association (NYCLA) and their Social Security SDNY Project. Part of NYCLA’s mission is to deliver world-class free civil legal services to individuals in need. The Social Security SDNY Project specifically matches volunteers with individuals who are appealing their denial of benefits. Volunteers review records and help file motions for judgments on pleadings, which are accompanied by memoranda of law. Briefs are sometimes accompanied by oral argument, before the District Judge issues a decision. With NYCLA’s help, litigants stand a fighting chance to receive highly needed benefits. In what will hopefully be the first of many cases, Associate Ami Arcot will be representing an individual appealing their denial of crucial government benefits in federal court.
