Sarah Sears is an associate in our commercial litigation practice.

Sarah received her J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center where she focused on intellectual property and media law and graduated cum laude from Skidmore College with a double major in political science and international affairs.

During law school, she worked in the Office of the General Counsel of Broadcasting Board of Governors, where she handled issues of corporate governance, contract interpretation, employment law, and trademark law. She also drafted a legal memorandum for PBS regarding copyright issues with mobile content distribution.

Post law school, Sarah was legal fellow in the Office of the General Counsel at NPR, where she concentrated on content licensing, copyright law, corporate governance and privacy law.

Sarah is active with the National Lawyers Guild as a Legal Observer.

    • Aided in the representation of a well-known radio personality with a national talk show. Helped successfully defeat a motion to dismiss in action for federal trademark infringement and unfair competition.
  • Helped Secure Favorable Outcomes in IP Matters for Bridal Designer
    • Assisted in the representation of a nationally renowned bridal designer in various matters, including a copyright infringement case and design patent and trade dress infringement cases. Barton secured multiple favorable outcomes for the client in each of these instances.

    • Aided in the successful prevention of the infringement of clients’ intellectual property online, allowing clients to avoid the need for costly and time-consuming litigation.

    • Successfully aided in the representation of a corporate client in class-action wage and hour litigation.
  • Provided Counsel Regarding FDA Compliance
    • Helped provide counsel to a European beverage company on a variety of FDA compliance issues in order to reduce the potential for fines and to minimize exposure to risk.
