Eric advises multinational corporations, strategic individual investors, financial services organizations, media, consumer products and life sciences organizations in the areas corporate finance, commercial law, intellectual property, privacy, cybersecurity, and information management. He counsels these entities on negotiation strategy, M&A, corporate finance, information governance and compliance with federal, state, and non-U.S. laws, including GDPR, and the interface of e-commerce and legal and regulatory areas such as cybersecurity and breach response, in addition to acting as an “outside General Counsel” to smaller companies without in-house legal departments.
Eric sees each matter and engagement as partnerships between himself and his clients, during which he analyzes the client’s business goals and develops with the client the deal strategy and intended optimum outcome early in the transaction timeline, and leads through each phase of the process to ensure the Client’s goals are achieved and interests are protected. He is relied upon by clients to guide growth strategies (including capital raises), to manage sensitive and cross-cultural business dealings, and to accurately present risks and liabilities for intelligent business decision making.
Prior to joining Barton in 2018, Eric was Vice President, Assistant General Counsel at Coty Inc., a global, publicly traded beauty company, focusing on corporate, commercial, technology and regulatory matters and the General Counsel for a start-up lifestyle and accessories brand.
