Stephen M. Lasser has focused his practice on real estate as both a transactional attorney and a litigator for over a decade. He acts as legal counsel to developers, lenders, landlords, cooperatives, condominiums and homeowners associations.
Mr. Lasser handles complex real estate acquisitions and finance matters as well as drafting and negotiating commercial leases, construction contracts and vendor agreements for his clients. He has also successfully litigated numerous lawsuits covering a wide spectrum of real estate related issues.
Mr. Lasser frequently lectures and writes articles related to his real estate law practice. He is the author of the articles “When Owners Fall Behind--How to Collect Condo Arrears” and “Collecting Condominium Common Charge Arrears--Appropriate Legal Methods,” which appeared in the October 2003 and April 2010 NY Edition of The Cooperator. He was also a featured lecturer at the 2006 Council of New York City Cooperatives and Condominiums Annual Conference on the topic of Condo Problem Solving.
Mr. Lasser is a volunteer at the Monday Night Law Program sponsored by the Bar Association of the City of New York where he provides pro bono counseling on landlord and tenant issues and other real estate matters. He also currently serves as the treasurer on the board of directors of the Manhattan cooperative where he resides.
Prior to and while earning his law degree in the Evening Division of Brooklyn Law School, Mr. Lasser worked as a property manager for several prominent local real estate developers and management companies. Prior to joining Barton LLP, Mr. Lasser was the head of the New York office of a leading East Coast law firm.
